Hamadi Al-Habib, the State Secretary in charge of water, stated today, Thursday, that the ministry is working to accelerate the completion of several drinking water supply projects in both rural and urban areas in the Gafsa governorate, aiming for a water-interruption-free summer in 2025.
In a press statement during his visit to Gafsa, he added that his visit is part of monitoring the progress of several drinking water supply projects in the delegations of Gafsa City, Redeyef, and Om Laaraes, which include drilling wells, connecting them, and providing electricity.
Abdelhamid Menja, the CEO of the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company (SONEDE), stated that several projects to enhance resources and improve the quality of distributed water in Eastern Gafsa, including Southern Gafsa, El Ksar, Moulares, and El Guettar, involve drilling 5 deep wells in the "Fom El Mazza" area to provide 150 liters per second, including a deep well "Fom El Mazza 10," which will ensure the supply of Gafsa City with 50 liters per second and will be ready by the end of next March, with its connection process completed.
In a press statement, Menja added that an agreement has been reached to start drilling the "Louza 4" well in Om Laaraes as part of the water resources enhancement program and to resolve the situation of informal popular neighborhoods lacking a drinking water supply network, including "Hay Al Amal 1" and "Hay Al Amal 2" in the Om Laaraes delegation, where the "Hay Al Amal 1" supply project will be funded by the Regional Council of Gafsa, with the consultation ready and the agreement signed with the contractor responsible for the project's implementation. Meanwhile, the "Hay Al Amal 2" supply process is still in the process of signing its implementation agreement with the contractor to carry out the connection process.
The official pointed out that the "Tabdit" well drilling project in the Redeyef delegation has been completed and is currently in the coordination stage with the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company to provide electricity. He added that the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company will work to solve the drinking water supply issue in the Maghreb Arab neighborhood in the Redeyef delegation.
Regarding the "Sakedud" area's drinking water supply, Menja confirmed that the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company is ready to repair the network supplying Metlaoui and Redeyef with water, provided it is protected by residents from repeated attacks.
He noted that to reduce pressure on the National Water Exploitation and Distribution Company's Gafsa region, a new branch will be established specifically for the mining basin areas to facilitate services provided to subscribers.
