post

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday, February 27, 2025, that it firmly rejects being addressed with deadlines, warnings, and threats. This comes after French Prime Minister François Bayrou threatened to cancel "all bilateral agreements" related to migration issues within a month or six weeks.

In a statement reported by the French news agency, the ministry said, "Algeria firmly rejects being addressed with deadlines, warnings, and threats, and will strictly and immediately apply reciprocity to all restrictions imposed on movement between Algeria and France, without excluding any other measures that national interests may require."

Earlier, on Wednesday, February 26, French Prime Minister François Bayrou announced that his country "will ask the Algerian government to review all signed agreements and how they are implemented," saying that he would give Algeria "a month to six weeks" to do so.

He added, "In the meantime, an urgent list of people who should be able to return to their country will be presented to the Algerian government."

François Bayrou also announced a ministerial audit regarding France's visa issuance policy, asserting that Paris does not wish to escalate tensions with Algeria.
