Development of Border Crossing Facilities Highlighted in Foreign Minister's Meeting with His Libyan Counterpart

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali al-Nafati, stated that he agreed with his Libyan counterpart, Al-Taher Baour, during their meeting today, Monday, at the ministry's headquarters in the capital, Tunis, to "resolve issues and lift restrictions that prevent smooth movement at border crossings between the two countries while respecting laws."

In a press statement following the meeting, al-Nafati added that "the development of border crossing facilities and the training of border staff" was among the important topics discussed during the conversation. He described the meeting as "constructive and fruitful, allowing a vision to overcome obstacles and all issues that need to be addressed in preparation for major events that enhance integration, cooperation, and constructive partnership with Libya."

He affirmed that communication and consultation between Tunisia and Libya are always ongoing on issues related to common security and sustainable development for the benefit of both peoples. He said in this regard, "We are determined to proceed with the implementation of the agreed programs, especially security, economic, developmental, and social programs, as well as consular technical matters, to complete these agreed-upon projects as soon as possible."

The Foreign Minister reiterated that "Libya's security is Tunisia's security," expressing his hope that Libya will regain its stability and unity. For his part, Al-Taher Baour stated that this visit is not a special one, given that visits and contacts between Tunisia and Libya are always ongoing, noting that the meeting discussed files related to the development of relations in many aspects between the two countries.

He added that the meeting addressed raising the level of consultation and coordination at the political level on common issues of concern to both countries and the Arab region in general, as well as discussing economic matters, including developing relations and trade exchanges between the two countries. He stated that it was agreed to establish a joint mechanism to evaluate the results of this meeting concerning political and economic matters.
