Mansuri: The Draft Law Related to Local, Regional, and Provincial Councils is an Important Step for Holding Municipal Elections

post

The spokesperson for the Independent High Electoral Commission, Mohamed Tlili Mansuri, stated in a press release to (TAP) today, Saturday, "that the draft basic law for local, regional, and provincial councils, which will be presented to the plenary session of parliament on February 27th, represents an important first step for the commission to hold municipal elections and achieve efficiency." He stressed the necessity of having this legal text in addition to a basic law for municipalities or amending the Local Communities Code, which no longer aligns with the new legal system, during an informational day organized by the sub-election commission in Sidi Bouzid for local and regional deputies in the presence of the members of the sub-election commission in Sidi Bouzid. Mansuri explained in this context that with the completion of this legislative framework with the decree to call voters, the process of approving the municipal election schedule, expected to be held in late 2025 or early 2026, will immediately begin. The issue remains, according to the speaker, dependent on the progress of the House of Representatives in approving the two legal texts. Regarding the amendments to the rules and procedures for organizing the draw for alternating representation of local councils in regional councils and the draw for presiding over local and regional councils, the spokesperson for the commission stated that they included several points, the most notable being that absence does not prevent the draw process and the mandatory participation in the draw in case of lack of volunteers to fill vacancies and prevent disruption of council work, in preparation for the fourth parliamentary session draw to be held on February 27th.
