
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali El Nefati, met today, Wednesday, at the ministry's headquarters, with Azouz Samri, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Tunisia, to follow up on the implementation of cooperation programs with this organization in the field of voluntary and safe return for irregular migrants. In a statement, the ministry mentioned that during the meeting, the minister discussed the outcomes of the voluntary return program for the year 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, emphasizing the importance of concerted efforts and continued coordination among all involved parties, contributing to the program's success at all stages. The Minister of Foreign Affairs called for intensifying awareness campaigns among irregular migrants to introduce the voluntary return program and the opportunities it provides for reintegration into their countries of origin, which the IOM mission regularly conducts, according to its head who praised the effective coordination with the specialized Tunisian authorities. The minister reiterated Tunisia's stance against being a transit or resettlement country for irregular migrants, and its commitment to ensuring that returns to countries of origin are voluntary and safe, preserving human dignity and complying with its relevant international commitments.
