The General Safety Administration in Alaska announced on Thursday that authorities are conducting a search operation for a passenger plane belonging to "Bering Air" carrying 10 people after it was reported missing during a flight from "Unalakleet" to "Nome" in the U.S. state. The administration stated on its website that the plane was carrying 9 passengers and its pilot, and search teams are working to determine its last known coordinates1.
According to Flight Radar 24 data, Bering Air is a local airline based in Alaska, operating around 39 aircraft and helicopters. David Olson, the operations manager at Bering Air, said the plane took off from Unalakleet at 2:37 PM and lost contact with authorities after less than an hour1. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the plane was about 12 miles (approximately 19 kilometers) from the coast.
This is the third aviation incident in the United States in 8 days. On January 29, a commercial passenger plane collided with a military helicopter near Washington, resulting in the death of 67 people1. Additionally, an air ambulance plane crashed in Philadelphia on January 31, killing 6 people on board and one person on the ground.
