The member of the National Coordination of Teachers and Substitute Professors, the Coordinator of Substitute Teachers, Imad Abdel Kabir, announced today, Wednesday, that the Presidency of the Republic has committed to addressing the issue of substitute teachers and professors through amending and issuing regulatory orders in the coming hours.
Abdel Kabir stated, in a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse agency, that "a session was held yesterday, Tuesday, at the level of the Presidency of the Republic, during which the Advisor to the President of the Republic confirmed the commitment of President Kais Saied to the issue of substitute teachers and professors by amending the regulatory orders to regularize the professional situations through two batches for substitute professors and two batches for substitute teachers, instead of six batches for each party, and issuing these regulatory orders exceptionally in the coming hours."
He added that "the substitute professors and teachers have been boycotting the resumption of lessons since the beginning of this week, after the first trimester vacation, in a protest movement against the delay in issuing the regulatory orders and the non-payment of their financial entitlements (salaries) since the start of the school year, which has caused anger and frustration among the substitute professors and teachers and led to the suspension of lessons."
This morning, Wednesday, the substitute teachers and professors organized a protest in front of the Ministry of Education headquarters in the capital, demanding the resolution of their professional and financial situations and an end to precarious employment, according to a member of the coordination. The spokesperson revealed that a statement will be issued following a meeting of the National Coordination of Substitute Teachers and Professors members to clarify their position and decision on whether to continue boycotting lessons or not.
