An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale shook an area 25 kilometers northeast of Awash city in Ethiopia on the morning of Wednesday, January 8, 2025, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The earthquake occurred at 02:53 local time, at a latitude of 9.199 degrees north and a longitude of 40.236 degrees east, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the earth's surface.
No reports of material damage or casualties have been received so far as a result of the earthquake.
On January 4, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck Ethiopia, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences, without mentioning any material or human damage.
Ethiopia has experienced repeated earthquakes over the past two weeks, with more than 120 quakes, setting a record number of earthquakes in 2024 compared to recent years.
