The official spokesperson for the General Directorate of the National Guard, Brigadier General Houssam Eddine Jebabli, stated that the Fifth Central Unit for Combating Information and Communication Technology Crimes, affiliated with the Sub-Directorate of Investigations at the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigations of the National Guard, recently began investigating 17 legal cases against users of the social media networks "TikTok" and "Instagram," five of whom are currently in Tunisian prisons, with ongoing investigations into money laundering crimes.

Jebabli, in an interview with the Tunis Afrique Presse Agency on Monday, said that 13 legal cases in the field of cybercrime were recorded during the first days of 2025, handled by the Fifth Central Unit. He considered that uncovering crimes related to artificial intelligence "is a significant challenge" for security units due to the difficulty of preserving digital evidence.

He confirmed that the similarity of synthetic voices using artificial intelligence to a real person's voice by 98% "is a serious matter," yet many cases related to cybercrime and fraud have been uncovered. He noted that various statistics indicate a significant increase in cybercrime, especially globally, with these crimes increasing by 11%, followed by crimes related to artificial intelligence.
