Iranian airlines resume flights to Europe after European sanctions lifted

post

The Iranian Civil Aviation Organization announced today, Monday, that direct flights to Europe operated by private companies will resume by the end of January, after more than three months of suspension of flights to Europe by the national carrier Iran Air due to European Union sanctions. The official IRNA news agency quoted the head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, Hussein Borfarzan, as saying that "European flights will resume on January 31 with a flight between Paris and Tehran operated by Iran Airtour," a private company.

In October, the European Union imposed new sanctions on Tehran, placing the national carrier Iran Air on its blacklist, which was the only Iranian airline providing flights to Europe. Iran, which denies these allegations, condemned the decision, considering it a "hostile move."

Borfarzan also announced that Qeshm Air, another private company, "intends to operate flights to two European destinations," without specifying them. He added, "We currently do not have any flights to London, but we are considering establishing a route soon."

In addition to Iran Air, European sanctions target two other Iranian airlines, Saha Air and Mahan Air. The Iranian aviation sector has suffered for years from international sanctions that prevent Iran from purchasing aircraft, spare parts, and obtaining maintenance services.
