Nabeul: Vaccination of 36,000 Cattle Against Lumpy Skin Disease

post

The campaign to vaccinate cattle against lumpy skin disease in the governorate of Nabeul, which started in mid-December last year, resulted in the vaccination of 36,000 heads of cattle out of the region's total of 50,000, according to Mohamed Al-Hamdouni, head of the Animal Production Division at the Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development in Nabeul, in a statement to the Tunis Afrique Presse Agency.

Al-Hamdouni indicated today, Tuesday, that the vaccination process, carried out by veterinarians from the Regional Commissioner for Agricultural Development with the support of private veterinarians and in coordination with the region's delegations and the Regional Union of Agriculture, is ongoing. He emphasized the concerted efforts of all stakeholders to contain the disease through ring vaccination of cattle and protecting the herd by providing them with immunity against the disease.

Al-Hamdouni stressed the importance of the agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, the National Order of Veterinarians, and the National Union of Private Sector Veterinarians to support the administration's efforts to vaccinate the herd in a short time, which will help limit the spread of the disease.

He renewed his call to cattle breeders to regularly clean and treat stables, clean the surroundings by removing stagnant water, avoid the accumulation of natural fertilizers, and control insects, as this disease is transmitted by insects and is not limited to a single insect as with some other diseases. He noted that the symptoms of this viral disease include fever and the appearance of nodules of various sizes on the animal's skin. It is worth noting that the first case of lumpy skin disease in the governorate of Nabeul was recorded in the Biyoub delegation in Dar Shaaban Al-Fehri on November 15 last year.
