Paris Hosts a Meeting of European Leaders on Ukraine

post

French President Emmanuel Macron has invited European leaders to a meeting in Paris on Monday, as confirmed by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski on Saturday. Sikorski said via the platform X that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk "will head to a meeting of European leaders on Monday at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron. We must show our strength and unity." The French presidency mentioned "talks" among "European leaders regarding a potential informal meeting," without confirming its date. Polish Foreign Minister expressed in a speech delivered on Saturday at the Munich Security Conference his hope that this meeting would "seriously address" the challenges faced by Europeans due to Trump's desire to push for negotiations with Vladimir Putin to settle the conflict in Ukraine. He pointed out that "the credibility of the United States is at stake in how the war ends, not just the credibility of the Trump administration, but the credibility of the United States," warning the U.S. president that if he wants to win a Nobel Prize, "peace must be just." Simultaneously, European Union Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas called for an informal meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states present in Munich on Sunday "to evaluate recent contacts with American and Ukrainian officials," as a spokesperson for her said on the platform X. The post also stated, "We are at a critical moment for the future of Ukraine and Europe. Europe stands with Ukraine."
