A report by the Tunisian Social Observatory, issued today, Monday, indicated that 117 cases of violence in various forms were recorded during the fourth quarter of 2024, revealing that a quarter of the recorded cases (31 cases) of violence led to death (murder). According to the same report, the cases of violence that led to death were particularly distributed in the governorate of Kef, which recorded 5 murder incidents, the governorate of Tunis with 5 cases, then the governorates of Gabes and Beja with 3 murder incidents each.

In addition to the murder incidents, the forum monitored cases of physical assault (21 cases), robbery (11 cases), assault on employees/workers (10 cases), violence against women (9 cases), sexual harassment (4 cases), theft (3 cases), digital violence (5 cases), domestic violence, and violence against women.

The majority of the perpetrators of violence were men, constituting about 85 percent of the aggressors, while approximately 10 percent of the acts of violence were mixed in form, and women represented only 4 percent of the perpetrators of the recorded violent incidents during the same period.

Individual violence accounted for about 53 percent of the violence recorded during the last three months of 2024, while collective violence accounted for 47 percent. Collective violence took the form of aggression and theft, for economic purposes, or for protest or revenge.

In contrast, individual violence included sexual violence, murder, assault, and the pursuit of dominance. The observatory noted that violence maintained the same characteristics of severity and the desire for vindication, motivated by theft, intimidation, revenge, harassment, sexual assault, and bullying. It pointed out that violence is not limited to the public and private spheres but also includes the virtual, institutional, educational, media, and leisure spaces.
