U.S. Supreme Court Approves Law Banning TikTok

post

The U.S. Supreme Court, on Friday, January 17, 2025, upheld a law supporting the closure of the TikTok platform in the United States. The decision comes under a federal law that seeks to enforce the sale of the application by its Chinese owner, which is used by 170 million people in the United States. The law is set to take effect on Sunday, having received broad bipartisan support last year. TikTok's lawyer stated that the Chinese company owning the application, ByteDance, mentioned in last week's court session that TikTok would cease operations on Sunday unless the Supreme Court grants a temporary suspension or overturns the law. In the ongoing case, an opportunity to save TikTok emerged, as the National Security Advisor to President-elect Donald Trump, Florida Representative Mike Waltz, said in a television interview on Wednesday that Trump is considering options to keep TikTok.
