The National Institute of Meteorology announced today, Sunday, that the world will witness a total lunar eclipse on March 14, 2025, coinciding with the night of the 15th of Ramadan.
The same source added that it will not be possible to view the total lunar eclipse from Tunisia. However, its initial phases can be observed before sunrise, starting with the moon entering the penumbra at 04:57 and until the moon sets around 06:33, before the eclipse is fully completed.
Although the total lunar eclipse cannot be observed from Tunisia, its initial stages can be spotted by looking westward before dawn to observe the moon entering the shadow. The use of binoculars or telescopes can help to clearly see the color changes. Additionally, the event can be followed through live broadcasts from global observatories that will cover the phenomenon in its entirety.
On the other hand, astronomical maps have indicated that the total eclipse will be clearly visible in South America, the Atlantic Ocean, and parts of Africa, while residents of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East will only be able to observe the initial phases of the eclipse before the moon sets.
According to the same source, during the total eclipse, the moon's color will turn crimson red due to the scattering of sunlight through Earth's atmosphere—a phenomenon known as the "Blood Moon."
