The Minister of National Defense, Khaled Al-Suhaili, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation between Tunisia and Italy in the field of maritime border control and bilateral coordination to combat irregular migration. This was during a meeting held today, Thursday, at the ministry's headquarters, with the Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Brunas.
He highlighted the importance of the outcomes from his meeting with the Italian Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, last December on the sidelines of the 20th meeting of the 5+5 Defense Initiative held in Madrid, Spain, affirming that Italy is one of Tunisia's most prominent partners due to the relations between the two countries, according to a ministry statement.
The minister also praised the qualitative leap in the Tunisian-Italian partnership, particularly manifested in the implementation of development projects such as the integrated development pilot project in the Rajim Maatouq area and the development project in the Al-Muhadhdhab area in the Al-Fawar delegation of Kébili Governorate. He highlighted the Italian side's role in providing necessary equipment and training trainers and supervisors for the professional diving training institution in Zarzis, as well as training doctors and paramedical staff in the field of diving medicine.
On the occasion of Italy hosting the 26th session of the Tunisian-Italian Military Committee in April, Al-Suhaili called for further strengthening of this cooperation by exploring new areas of partnership between the two sides, emphasizing the central role of Tunisia and Italy in regional stability.
For his part, the Italian ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the outstanding cooperation in the military and developmental fields, affirming his country's continuous readiness to support efforts to develop the capabilities of the Tunisian army and support its developmental role.
In this context, he considered that reviving desert areas serves as a successful example of Tunisian-Italian cooperation, and Italy will continue to cooperate with Tunisia to ensure the stability and security of the Mediterranean region.
