French Foreign Minister Jean Noël Barraud confirmed today, Monday, February 10, 2025, that the European Union will "respond" to the 25% tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump that he intends to impose on European steel and aluminum imports, just as it did during his first term. Speaking to TF1 television network, Barraud said, "There is no hesitation when it comes to defending our interests," adding that the European Commission is authorized to take action in this regard. Trump had earlier announced that the United States would impose a 25% tariff on its imports of steel and aluminum. Trump had repeatedly threatened to impose tariffs and used this as a means to push countries that have trade partnerships with the United States to adjust their policies to align with his priorities.
