The National Center for Child-Oriented Media Launches the First National Educational Radio Station

post

The National Center for Child-Oriented Media, today Wednesday, launched the first national educational radio station, "Edu Media," at its headquarters in Tunis, with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). The cost of this space, which is a radio studio equipped with various audiovisual technologies, amounted to about 82,000 dinars.

Several children from the center participated in the experimental radio broadcast in a coordinated effort that started after the national anthem was played. In her opening speech for the radio broadcast, the Minister of Family, Women, Children, and Seniors, Asma Jabri, considered the establishment of this media education space a pioneering step towards excellence and optimal investment in childhood, enabling the production of meaningful content that fosters a love of knowledge in children. She called on all institutions and organizations to support the ministry's efforts in fostering innovation among this segment of society.

The director of the National Center for Child-Oriented Media, Mohamed Znen, explained in a statement to the Tunis Africa Press Agency that this radio station is an asset and a qualitative addition to the center's services. It falls within the framework of meeting children's needs and implementing the regional centers' modernization program, which included equipping four regional centers in Monastir, Sidi Bouzid, Gabes, and Manouba with various audiovisual equipment in 2024. By 2025, three more centers in Bizerte, Nabeul, and Medenine will be equipped with these technologies to produce media content and broadcast it on the national educational radio station.

Znen stated that the radio broadcast will initially be gradually shared on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube until a digital content library that meets children's needs and expectations is created. He pointed out that children active in this space must master several skills, including journalistic skills, program preparation, and presenting news bulletins.

The Turkish Ambassador to Tunisia, Ahmed Misbah Demirkan, who accompanied the minister in the radio's opening, stressed the importance of educating the youth about media, noting that there are both positive and negative aspects in media content broadcasted through media channels. It is necessary to train children on ways and mechanisms to distinguish between them, encouraging them to focus on the positives and enhancing their ability to recognize and address the negatives.

He also reiterated Turkey's continuous support for Tunisia. It is worth mentioning that the National Center for Child-Oriented Media, affiliated with the Ministry of Family, Women, Children, and Seniors, organizes several workshops and training activities annually. During the 2023-2024 school year, 16,949 children participated in these activities.
